In this (extended) episode, Thomas takes a look at Steelseries’ top-of-the-line offering, the Apex Pro. This keyboard incorporates Steelseries’ new OmniPoint Hall Effect switches, which feature analog capability and per-key customizable actuation. It also allows for contactless keytravel, which can drastically improve switch smoothness and offers extreme reliability. The keyboard also has an OLED screen and several other interesting features.
It looks like both the analog and Hall Effect trends are really taking off. This joins the Input Club’s upcoming Keystone keyboard as a Hall Effect/analog device, and of course Wooting and Aimpad have been producing analog input for a long while now.
The SteelSeries Apex Pro is $200 on Amazon. There’s also a TKL version that’s coming and will cost $180.
