Catching up from the weekend. Here’s what’s clacking:
The latest from Input Club is the RE:Type keyboard. Its group buy launches on August 1, and you can join the waitlist for it here. The RE:Type is a TKL keyboard that the Input Club fellows created by extracting what they felt were the best qualities of the K-Type, drizzling in some suggestions from the community, and cooking up a whole new soup.
It’s got a CNC-machined aluminum case with a steel plate, elevation feet, Kaihua hot-swap sockets, per-key RGB lighting, USB Type-C, a second USB Type-C hub, and shine-through doubleshot PBT caps. The price looks to be $199.
The Zlant group buy is now open, and you can presently enter to win a Grimace keycap. The Zlant is a 40% keyboard with QMK with a “uniform stagger” (4 x 12) layout. You can see in the image what the stagger bit is all about. After $65 for the kit, you’ll need your own switches and caps. More here.
Alex Jackson, otherwise known as alexatpanc, has a new storefront for his Panc Interactive venture. He describes it thusly: “From small-batch group buys to small form factor custom keyboards to unique color schemes, we work to ensure that when you look down at your desk, you’re happy with what you see.”
There’s a bunch of fun giveaway stuff, which you can track here.
There’s yet another new keyboard forum. This one is called TypeHype–.net, not .com, just to be clear. This joins Keebtalk as at least two new forums just in the last several weeks. It seems the fallout from the GeekHack sale drama has reverberations. Are all of these communities complementary, or competitive? Which ones will survive?
